Happy New Year!

I wanted to wish everyone a Happy New Year and thank you for creating with me in 2011. As many of you know, I have had some big changes and challenges in my life this past year. I want to thank all of you for your continued love and support this past year.

The New Year brings new opportunities. A clean slate if you will. I am no stranger to making (and breaking) New Year's resolutions. This year, however, I have decided to follow through on those resolutions, not because they are "Resolutions" but because I have to follow my heart and the path that God has for me.

That Scrappy Girl, at this time, is no longer a path I can continue to follow. I have struggled with this decision for some time and honestly I thought I had enough energy and passion to keep things going. It saddens me to say, that the business portion of That Scrappy Girl is just too much for me and I need to focus on other priorities in my life.

I have been truly blessed to have met so many wonderful people along the way. I consider you all friends. I want to not only thank you, but all of my wonderful vendors who generously donated prizes for my crops and workshops. Please continue to support them.

I will be reducing inventory with some upcoming sales, so please watch for those announcements and pass the word along. I will continue to post on this blog, but in a different capacity. I want to share my love of scrapbooking and want to have an avenue to express my creativity. I will no longer have a design team, website or crops. I have committed to some local crops as a vendor and I intend to honor those commitments. I will be officially closing the business on March 15, 2012 which signifies That Scrappy Girl's 4th birthday.

I hope 2012 brings you all the joy and peace your heart desires.

Mixed Media on Canvas

I decided to play with a canvas and try to make a painting for my sister-in-law. It's was tough to figure out, because I wanted to use Tim Holtz inks, but they don't stick to a pre-primed canvas. So first you have to paint it with acrylic paints. I used painters tape to block off the areas, painted with acrylics and then I could ink with TH inks. I also used Rangers color wash, Maya Mist and Glimmer mist. I cut an "a" from my circut and used the negative space. I taped it down with painters tape after I had all my color done. Then I sprayed the "a" with glimmer mist. let it dry over night. In the morning I taped down the "a" itself and cleaned up any edges I need to. It was really fun and I felt like a real Artist. It turned out better then I thought.

Look to the world around you for inspiration

When I scrapbook I like to look to the world around me, and like many, I've been addicted to Pinterest lately. That addiction inspired me to create a vintage style page with a corkboard "pinned" with photos of some favorite finds taken during a few junkin' adventures. I also love the idea of "diamonds and denim" and wanted to mix textures that were blingy and fabulous, with other embellishments that had more of a simple everyday feeling. With all of that in mind I set out to create this page.

Craft Fusion: The selling power of Mixed Media

What does Mixed Media mean to you? Each person has their own interpretation of mixed media and the great aspect is that there are NO RULES. Art is in the eye of the beholder and Mixed Media is no different.
Mixed Media was this year's CHA summer show theme. CHA and acting president Tony Lee are encouraging the craft and hobby industry to "expand their vision."

By combining different materials in unique ways, crafters can be especially creative and achieve dramatic, non-traditional results" says Lee. He continued to say that "Mixed Media is more than a fad, but represents a shift in how younger craft enthusiasts are expressing their creativity."

Exhibitors specializing in Mixed Media were present at the show and none to eager to show off all of the amazing projects that can be created with their products. Here are some pics of a few projects I saw:

Sneak Peek! Introducing the Silhouette Cameo!

As most of you know I just returned from the CHA Summer show. We had a wonderful time and have come back more inspired, it's hard to express.

For all of your Silhouette lovers or if you have been on the fence about buying a die-cutting machine, your wait is over. The hit of the CHAS show hands down was Silhouette America's introduction of the Cameo:

The Silhouette Cameo is "an electronic cutting tool that connects to your home computer just like a printer. However, rather than printing images, the Silhouette cuts out designs and text"

According to the Silhouette America sales guru TJ, the new Cameo is expected to be out mid October. Pre-Sales order will be available during the month of September. The MSRP for the new Cameo is $299.

So, want more deets?
The Silhouette cuts a variety of media, and the new cutting blade which is expected to be released with the Cameo will cut CARDBOARD! WooHoo! The blade is still in production, but the team is hoping it will be included with the new machine. Keeping our fingers crossed!

More BIG NEWS! The new Cameo will cut designs and texts from 1/4" to 12" wide and 10' long. AMAZING!

The Silhouette Cameo will have the same features as the Silhouette SD, but get this...it's QUIETER! Not only that, the cut is more precise and more exact! I was an eye-witness and just LOVE IT!

Makin' a list....

...and checkin' it twice! No, it's not Christmas in July, but it certainly seems like it with all of the great new products being released at CHA (the scrapbooking industry trade show) this week. I'm totally bummed that I couldn't make it to the show itself, but that certainly hasn't kept me from pouring over sneak peeks from all of my favorite manufacturers.

Here's my list of gotta have items:

1. October Afternoon's new lines: Sasparilla, Sidewalk, and Farm House.

Maya Road -especially loving the new wood doilies, the kraft and wood snowflakes, and ... well, pretty much everything! I'm also totally digging the banner chipboards. Wouldn't those be great for cards and little subtitles on pages?

And wouldn't these flowers be just perfect for a retro layout?

Unity stamps by Marah Johnson

So i played with my Unity stamps today, it was so muc fun! I had joined in on a color challenge, and was really struggling with the colors given to me they were "cement","Chamois Brown","Mint Green" and charcoal.
I was like HMMMM what the heck am I going to make with this?
So after struggling with several things that I wasnt likeing, I finally decided to go for a "steampunk" sort of look. Now this is my first steampunk page, so I am not sure if I captured it right, but I like the overall design. I started with some embossed cardstock from artsylicious, rubbed on some copper ink, then a black cardstock and started to randomly stamp with ivy brilliance ink using the stamps from marah johnson by unity both the "art and soul"and "breathless". I also used some versamark ink and perfect pearls, and silver embossing powders on the background. I layered on some black lace and cut the dressform and wings with my wishblade,I used some rub-ons from heidi grace, and some watch parts from ranger and all of the other embellies I made with my melting pot,Utee and embossing powder.
the hidden journaling reads,, ""some days are hard, your thought run away with you and you feel sad and defeated. stay strong sweet girl, for the good days greatly out number the bad, try to think "no more bad days, stay strong" and it will pass,you will be happy, I promise!"

So what do you think? is it a keeper?

Get Mowtivated

Following our unofficial blog theme as of late, I thought I'd put together a little card using the new Unity Watermelon Gazpacho stamp set.

So, if you've been a little behind on your scrappy projects lately, consider this blog post sending you a little "mowtivation" this week courtesy of That Scrappy Girl. :)

To create the grass
-Cut along the edge with the Martha Stewart scissors.
-To make the finer blades of glass, space your cuts half of the normal distance of the scissors.
-Once you've made your away along the length of the strip, use regular scissors to vary the ends of the blade lengths. (I would describe cutting technique used as similar to how you would cut your bangs if you didn't want them blunt cut.)

Summer Days with Echo Park

The bright colors of Echo Park's Summer Days is perfect for these summer play pictures. Just playing around, dancing and twirling in the outdoor sun. Maddie brings these bright colors alive. I just love Echo Park. The designs are so bright and fun. I enjoy putting foam squares under the stickers to help them pop from the page, like the banner stickers. Cutting just a simple circle from such bright and colorful patterns add a lot of design to your page. I added buttons to the centers of the flower stickers to give them dimensions and used the letters in the kit to cover a label with maddie's name .

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a scrappin' fun weekend. So we're in full swing for summer and it's been a little rainy here in Des Moines. So, I decided to get some paint out and let the kids have some fun. Here's what they came up with...

Jillibean's Watermelon Gazpacho that is! This is such a beautiful line. I LOVE the colors. I used the decorative cut-outs and layered them and added foam squares to add dimension. Now all I have to do is catch one of my beautiful niece's dripping with Watermelon juice and add their pictures.

Lemonade for Sale!

Pink Paislee Hometown Summer was perfect for these summer photos I had been hoarding. I used a variety of Pink Paislee goodies on this page including the Punchouts, Border Stickers, Chipboard Shapes and Fruit Stand and Summer Fun patterned papers. (click the photos for a better look)

My journaling didn't show up the best in my photo, but here is some background on these pictures. A couple summers ago I looked out the window and there sat my son in the backyard, sun blazing with an empty cat litter bucket and a handmade sign that read Original Lemonade Stand 25 cents. We live in the county so not sure who exactly was going to be strolling around the yard and need a drink! He was really bummed he hadn't had any customers, so after moving him into the shade, I offered him 50 cents for a cup. He said no Mom, it's only 25 cents - see the sign. (My son is very matter of fact) Then my daughter also had to get into the action with some microwave popcorn. The popcorn even came with some extra grass for additional flavoring. I also never told him he was false advertising since it was really water :-)

Embrace imperfection

My scrappy mojo has also been a little stuck lately, so I thought I'd work on designing a perfectly imperfect page. That way if there were any little mojo-missing speedbumps along the way I could just absorb them and keep going.

This is probably one of the greatest scrapbooking lessons my dear friend (and fellow design team member) Linda has taught me - there are no mistakes, just new creative turns in the road to completion. Yes, there were a few "bumps" as I went, but mostly I just kept working around them.

For example, after I drew the line around the upper right corner of the photo, I decided that I really didn't like it. Instead of starting over or being unhappy with it, I decided to incorporate it into the page and use it as a place to ground my journaling.

Here's my scrappy challenge to you this week: Embrace imperfection. :)

Wedding Bliss

Thank you to everyone that left comments on my last post. I am excited to get started on the wedding album and share some of my creations with you.

This week I wanted to share with you some of the decorations we made for my sisters wedding using supplies I purchased through That Scrappy Girl. My sister had the florist doing about half of the center pieces for the tables at the reception that were going to be more elaborate so we decided for the other tables we would just do something simple. Below are photos of glass cylinders that we put ribbon around and then glued on a circle (circles/polka dots were the theme) that was cut from the dotted swiss line and then embossed with their "M" monogram that we used throughout the wedding. Then around them we set just plain white votives. Very elegant and simple, yet worked well with everything else working in the room.

The reception was at the Waterloo Center for Performing Arts.

The BIG HIT of the reception was the candy table that Lindsey and Travis had at the reception. My sister Trish is queen of sugar so this was her project! Trish ordered all purple and green candies - the wedding colors - and assembled this adorable table.

These boxes were at every place setting and were used to put candy in from the candy table. We carried the circle and "M" theme out with as well.

This Thing We Call "Life"

Mimi talked earlier in the week about being MIA because of moods which I too can relate with. I have been MIA for the past two months too, but mainly because of this thing we call "life" has gotten in the way! :) However, if this thing called "life" didn't get in my way once and a while I wouldn't have anything to scrapbook! For the past two months I have been running from one thing to the other which I know all of you can relate to. All good things, so I am not complaining, but it does feel better to get back to my normal at least!

One of my younger sisters was married in May and so even though I have had more than a year to get things done for the big day, the past two months were getting ready for the wedding. (Next week I am planning on sharing with you all the cool things that I was able to made by using products from That Scrappy Girl for the wedding.) Below are just a few photos that I wanted to share with all of you from the big day.

Recently I shared with you that I have been in a FUNK with my scrapbooking. So I decided to take an online class. How many of you own a SILHOUETTE machine? Well, I bought mine a few years ago (the original version). I hate to admit, but I hardly used the darn thing. So, to the internet I went and found a great gal and resource Jennifer Priest. She teaches online classes at My Creative Classroom. What a B L A S T!!!!
The classes are great and it renewed my much needed spirit.

I recently took a class called Off the Page using my Silhouette to create non-scrapbooking projects. Here are just a few things I created.

What Color is your MOOD?

Happy Monday All! You have probably noticed that I have been MIA for quite some time. I have to be honest with you friends...My personal life has gotten the best of me. I haven't been scrapbooking because of my M O O D. I have been a little down and sad and I haven't wanted to show that in my scrapbook pages.

Luckily for me, I have great friends, goofy kids and enough projects in my head to get me back on track. Ultimately, what got me out of my FUNK was just to embrace and document what I was feeling. Having S U P E R cute paper from Jillibean Soup doesn't hurt either. So to embrace my M O O D, I decided to go BLUE...the C O L O R blue that is.

My first brush with scrapbooking was as a child, back when Mrs. Grossman’s stickers and magnetic albums along with ephemera were all the supplies available. I was reintroduced to the hobby in 2001 and became a full-fledged scrapbooking addict in 2005 when I started working at my local scrapbooking store. Today, I’ve expanded into all things paper crafting and often extend my supplies into home décor projects as well. I look to the world around me and the product I have to work with for my inspiration. I am a self-professed tool and technique junkie, and while I do design in a wide variety of styles, I tend to create clean and simple designs with hint of an
understated elegance.

Pink Paislee Hometown Summer

Hello everyone! It's all about swimming at our house right now. The kids are counting the days down until the town pool opens (4) and my daughter is on swim team..so she always spells of chlorine! This layout is about my son passing his Red Cross swimming lessons a couple years ago. He is very competitive and was worried he wouldn't pass. When he got the card he had passed, he was beaming! I used all kinds of goodies from the Pink Paislee Hometown Summer collection. My favorite thing in the entire collection are the Rubber Charms (I used the boy and the sun on this layout). To add a little more dimension I cut a matching wave from the Neighborhood Pool paper and then used a bunch of pop dots behind it.

I've made some more projects with this collection, so look for them soon!

Jilliebean is always reliable for cute patternes that go with almost anything.
This sweet photo of my two awesome boys that share a birthday was perfect for this paper line. It features birthday wishes on some pages, but really could be used for many different things such as picnics and summer fun.

Some companies' packaging is as pretty as their products. I love to use the packaging from Jillibean, Prima and Girl's Paperie to name a few. These flower packages from the corrugated butterflies and pins make perfect frames for my beautiful niece's photos. Jersey's beautiful eyes make her photo jump. I also removed the hang tag, trimmed it and used it as a pull tab for hidden journaling.

I know , I know , now dont be shocked.. but when I got these awesome Unity stamps from Mimi,, I just had to play with them , and these are some of what I made.

The Chandelier is from the stamp set titled "breathless" and it just called for some BLING and lots of it! I used rhinstones and "dew drops" to bling it out, and it really turned out cute!
The "I live for you" also come from "breathless" and it is heat embossed with flat black embossign powder, and really makes a statement all by itself!
The butterfly come from the stamp set "art & soul" and is soo awesome , she is heat embossed with irredescent blue glitter, and cut out then colored with red copic, and lifted with a pop dot.I also used the "create" and the flourish from the same set.Also on this card, I used the "modern homemaker" papers by october afternoon.
I hope you enjoy my newfound abilities at card makeing, as much as I did.

"Let them eat CAKE!"

Today's post is a bit out of the ordinary...I have been taking the Wilton's Decorating Basics class and this week we had to bake a cake. This was my first time baking a cake the PROPER way and HOORAY, it turned out. Now our other part of our assignment was to use piping gel to transfer an image to our cake

My first instinct was to find a coloring page, but then it hit me. Why not use a stamp? So here's what I did. I found a C U T E stamp from UNITY.

Stamped the image on a piece of Bazzill Smoothie cardstock. Then use the piping gel to trace the image. Apply the image to your cake.

Then finish the cake with whatever colored frosting you like. Here's how my first cake turned out. Can't wait for dessert tonight!

Summer Time

Story's can be told in several different formats: verbally, written, and visually through photographs or other artwork and these are just to name a few. I prefer to tell my stories either verbally or visually. I think that is one of the reasons I love scrapbooking. However, journaling is an important part of scrapbooking and writing or journaling is not my forte. The layout above is a prime example of how my scrapbooking process goes, I work on the layout, add photos, leave a spot to journal and then I put it aside to journal "later." I have a place for journaling with no words in the journaling box. Why? I ask myself, do I do this? Am I scared to actually complete something? Or it is pure laziness? Or is it that I just don't think I need to do it?

I have tried several different techniques to get my journaling done. When I first started scrapbooking I typed everything. I thought this was a great solution with all the cool fonts and spell check! Then I went to writing everything in a journal first and then writing it on my layouts (when I had time). Now my pages just look like the above layout.

My goal this month is to work on my journaling techniques so I am not constantly worrying or not completing my pages. If you have suggestions on how to journal more effectively I would enjoy hearing them.

I was in a Technique Tuesday class recently that suggested that you use a different color pen (other than black) for your journaling. Most of us don't like our handwriting so using a different color ink - something not so bold - helps soften it up. I have tried this time and again and I enjoy it, but I still haven't found a technique or system I am in love with.

Jillibean Soup Spotted Owl - Typical Night Out On The Town

Spotted Owl has more of a birthday feel to it, but I wanted to show you that it can be used on non-birthday projects as well. This layout I made documenting two of the favorite things my kids like to do with their Grandma and Grandpa Hansen. They are the only two grandchildren and spoiled rotten. A trip to Walmart to buy a toy and a meal at Burger King or McDonalds occurs about 95% percent of the time.

On this layout I also used the flower shaped packaging from the some of Jillibean's corrugated cardboard shapes and then layered Jillibean Soup Spotted Owl stickers and die cuts and added alphabet stickers to spell out my title. The paper I used was actually from the 6x6 Jillibean paper pad - so see you don't always need a 12x12 piece of paper to make a layout! I ran Bazzill cardstock thru my Cuttlebug to give it some dimension. Because the embossing plate only covers about a 4x6 area, I hid the seam under the photo. For the title I used Jillibean Soup Glazed Green Alpha Beans and the mini ABC stickers are from Jenni Bowlin.

And I also want to say I even journaled on this one!

I just adore this paper line! it is called Modern homemaker by October afternoon.
At first I had a hard time working with it, but the photos I was trying to use just werent working,, so I found this photo of my mom taken in 1964. And it goes perfectly!!
The colors are perfect for a 1960s era photo.The teal,yellow and red with just a touch of pink,, lovely, dont cha think?

Hi Everyone! We have had some changes to our blog members so I'm bringing you today's post. A few weeks ago, I shared with everyone how my friend Dawn inspired me as she is trying to "BUMP" up her scrapbooking pages. Well today's post is just that.

I have to admit, Gesso is new to me and my dear friend Heather is more of an expert at Gesso than I, but hey, we're trying new things here right?

For my layout, I used Gesso as a primer to my 12" x 12" Kraft paper. I used some household objects (empty toilet paper roll, plastic fork) to create texure in my layer. Once that dried, I added some pretty colors to enhance my photo. Finally for the conclusion, I added my layer of embellishments from Pink Paislee - Hometown Summer, title is a rub on (hard to see in pic), items to make it pop more. And here you go, my out of the box, BUMPing it UP scrapbook page.

Mojo Monday #14 {The Art of Story Telling}

Mojo Monday kicks off a new theme for this month. The month of April is embracing something that proves to be a big challenge for a lot of us: Storytelling. I hate to admit, but I am TERRIBLE when it comes to Journaling and Storytelling. Recently, I looked back through some of my scrapbooks and I really have done a disservice. Yes, I {CAPTURED} the moment, H I L I T E D the page, and I even Documented the EVENT. But looking back years later...I didn't TELL the STORY.

This week I am challenging you to tell your story through your PHOTOGRAPHS. Here's a few tips to consider when taking pictures.

1. A good story starts with an INTRODUCTION. In Photography, this is your CAPTURE photo or your main photo that is going to TELL the story. These shots introduce the characters or sets up the scene for the story. The below picture is my husband and I . Guess the event {OUR WEDDING}

2. The Next part of a story or Your next photos {Multiple Photos on Layout} is the P L O T. These photos are the supporting information to the story. They enhance and SUPPORT the main photo or Introduction. So when you are taking photos, have a plan, what shots are you going to capture to help tell the story.

3. Lastly, every STORY has a CONCLUSION or ENDING. What is the closing shot that ends your story? This photograph brings closure to your story. Now I obviously wasn't the photographer, but this shot could have even been zoomed out further so that we were more out of focus or farther out of distance. Another possible ending to this story could have been us walking away holding hands or traditionally, driving away in the horse drawn carriage. Kidding...we didn't have a horse drawn carriage, but you get the point.

Have fun telling YOUR story. Be mindful of the pictures you take and those you use. Scrapbooking is an incredible craft. Next week, I will focus on tips for JOURNALING your STORY.

I had so much fun at the birthday crop last weekend I can hardly stand it! I wish we were doing it again this weekend. It was so fun to see all my fellow scrapbookers and spend some time with the scrap pack. I want to personally thank Mimi - a.k.a. That Scrappy Girl for hosting such a great event. It really was a wonderful day.

I am so happy to be able to share with you a layout I worked on at the crop. I am not sure if you have had a chance to see the new Spotted Owl Soup paper line by Jillibean Soup, but if you haven't you need to get your hands on it now. It is adorable! I am so excited about this fun line that I had to share this layout with you, even before I get my title and journaling down. I know...kind of backwards, but that is just me! I hope you like it as much as I do. Enjoy!

BTW-the adorable little boy in the picture is my nephew Sam celebrating his first birthday. I am just in love with this kid. He is the best to photograph and he actually lets me!

I wanted to share the make-n-take project we made at the Birthday crop this past weekend. As you know Jillibean Soup sponsored our make-n-take project. It was so fun and super cute {Okay, I really wanted to say So Stinkin' Cute, but then I would get harrassed for always using that phrase} but I can't help it...It was SO STINKIN' CUTE

Egg Drop Soup

I love the bright colors of Jillibean Soup's Egg Drop collection. When putting together this layout about our rainy 4th of July parade, I immediately thought - umbrellas! On this layout I cut the umbrellas from Egg Yolk and then used brads to give them some dimension. I also added pop dots behind some for additional oomph as well. I also used the green checked backside of Eggs. I used the coordinating journaling stickers to add the date and city and made my title with the Poached Pink alpha stickers.

A little story behind the layout. I am from a teeny tiny town in Southwest Iowa (Exira) and the biggest thing that happens all year is the 4th of July parade and activities. Thousands of people show up and it's the one time of year we have a traffic jam (there are no stoplights). This year it rained most of the weekend - bleh!

Summer is Around the Corner!

Oh how I wish summer was here! The weather is warming up here in Iowa slowly but surely and it put me in the mood to scrapbook about summer.

I absolutely love how this craft allows me to transform into another place and be creative. I go into my scrapbook room sometimes feeling grouchy or stressed and then after spending some time scrapbooking - something I love - I feel so much better. I love the fact that That Scrappy Girl offers so many adorable products from me to choose from helping my creative process. The paper line I used in this LO is by October Afternoon - Fly A Kite and is the perfect spring/summer paper pack.

This LO has photos of the first summer that Owen was really able to get outside and play in his pool. His cousin Cole and him had so much fun going up and down the slide and back out and around the pool again. Adorable to watch them in their little swim diapers. I hope that this LO inspires you to do something fun and creative!

I just love basic grey papers, I havent seen one line yet that I didnt like.And this one is so pretty with its delicate flowers it makes me think of spring.And let me tell you, I am READY for spring!So I found these photos of my daughter takena few years ago in the NC mountains, and they look perfect with these papers!I used some light misting on the background, (by mixing some reinker,water and perfect pearls into a mister bottle and shake.)I used some strips of paper all twirled up to add some dimension.I then put a layer of glitter pen all of the letters and flowers.Well do ya like it??

Happy Monday everyone! The groundhog was wrong in Iowa, because today it started SNOWING again. I don't mind snow days oh so much today. Sometimes snowdays are a perfect excuse to stay in and get some projects around the house. My big project today is to finish moving my office and putting together some shelving. So, if I don't answer the phone or return emails right away, I promise, I'm okay...probably just burried under shelves, paper, or adhesives!

Today's Mojo Monday has two challenges which I incorporated into my layout. I stamped Unity's new Sweetest Day co-branded stamp on adhesive felt which I then colored with Copic Markers. My second challenge was scrapbooking about something very personal and painful to me. I almost didn't scrapbook the layout because it brought tears to my eyes, but actually scrapbooking the picture helped me work through some emotions that I have been bottling up inside.

I want to encourage you to go "Out of the Box" and scrapbook on materials that you may not have thought to use in a layout and of course, we scrapbook to record memories, good or bad. Get out those pictures that may be somewhat painful and glorify them through your craft.

I am sorry that my post is so late this week. It has been a whirlwind of activity the past two weeks and I haven't had a chance to slow down. The past few weeks have had a lot of ups and downs. So for this post I wanted to post these two layouts that I recently did with the Basic Grey Line Lime Rickey. I just love this line, it immediately speaks happiness and joy. These papers were the perfect choice for these layouts, as these photos are from our annual family trip to Adventureland. It was one of my favorite days of the year. Moving Offices!

Yeah, I'm back! The internet has been down ALL week since I have moved my office and studio. Wow, it's amazing how connected we all are and how dang SMALL the screen on my phone really is. I apologize as this a repeat of a project I made for That Scrappy Girl awhile ago, but this week has just sucked, so I have nothing new to share. My camera is broken, my son has been sick for days and my husband accidentally ran over our new kitty yesterday. Yes I sound like a country music song!

Here is a little box I made using some of Elle's Studio's XOXO papers. This company has put out so many cute products including these 4x4 papers. I love smaller papers, since I love to make cards and other small projects. The "box" is a die cut from Creative Cuts and More. This box not only could be using for Valentine's Day, but for a wedding or as a little present for your sweetie. You could fill with candy, a gift card or other fun trinkets.

Where, 'O Where has my Monday gone? This week we will be a vendor at the Easter Seals Crop, so while I have not been at the computer today {until now} I have had been consumed with thoughts of craftiness and scrapbooking.

Today I am going to bring you some Mojo from my friend Heather Kindt. Heather is not a scrapbooker, but is extremely creative. Spending 5 minutes with her and you will be inspired beyond belief. For Valentine's Day she made me this altered paper mache tube {filled with candy}.

There are so many things I love about scrapbooking. I love that I get to be creative in a way that showcases my life. I love the fact that I get shop and use fun products. Today's post and layout is dedicated to ladies that I love in the The Scrap Pack. This layout is showcasing photos from the Point of Grace crop that That Scrappy Girl hosts a couple times a year. The funds raised at this crop helps the churches youth group with their mission trips and other community projects. All of us had a great time at this crop and if I remember correctly got a lot done!

make the most of it!!

sometimes you have to pack light,, going to a crop is fun, but sometimes very stressful for me.I want to take everything in my room!Yes I know that is not feasable, nor realistic, although I have tried a few times!(no kidding!)
Anyway, my point is that sometimes u have to grab just a few things, and make the most of it. So one saturday at 8am, my friend calls and says, "I can scrap today, but I only have a few hours,so how soon can you be here?" Well this sets of the panic button in my head ...........WHAT DO I TAKE?.........OMG!I CANT BE READY TO GO CROP IN 10 MINUES!!...........IT TAKES ME DAYS OF PREP TO GO TO A CROP!!!............
So I go into my craft room and after several minutes of hyperventilating I gather these supplies,

Some lovely papers by lillybee,pennylane, and some bazzil cardstock(my staple supply)some matching ribbbon and fibers,thickers for titles and some matching buttons.
and I was able to make six layouts and one card from these few supplies! I was pretty proud of myself,, it can sometimes take me hours,to complete one layout, and days to prepare for a crop!

I hear a lot of people saying that they never scrap anything about themselves, or they are never in any photos because they are always the ones taking the pictures. I am no exception to this and even though I don't like to see myself in photos, I do believe that I need to be true to this art form and allow myself to be in more pages of my scrapbooks. So...with the theme this month of being "Love is in the Air" I thought I would do a special page of one of my greatest loves - my little boy Owen. This photo was taken Mother's Day last year at my sister-in-laws house.

For this page I used the Together line from Chatterbox. If you haven't taken a look at this line before you defiantly should, because it if full of fun and unique designs. And to be totally honest I am a sucker for adorable embellishments and who doesn't love felt? The stitched felt embellishments are so easy to use and they add so much to your page.

When I have scraps left over from other projects I try to make a tag or small card. To attach the tab on the top of this tag I secured with a brad. Well hello there all our lovlies,,I decided to shre wih you a little layout I made from an older Jilliebean soup line of papers. Jilliebean is always so cute, and you can do so many things with it..
Some times I like to scrap things that are random, things other than my family and friends.So this time I decided to scrap this awesome tree that we found while visiting Charlestown SC. I LOVE this tree it is beautiful, and has so much character.
So I used the beautiful Jilliebean papers to highlight it. I used some felt thickers and some ribbon to bring it all together.

Silly in the Snow

Considering the amount of snow that everyone has had lately I thought that this layout would be appropriate for today's post. I have had this adorable photo of my son's daycare friends for about a year now, and I wasn't sure how I wanted to scrapbook it. However, after going through some of my paper stash I found this adorable paper which is Frosted by Fancy Pants. The snowflakes are so playful looking and I thought what a perfect line for this fun photo.

I used a Bazzill chip snowflake, inked it with blue ink, embossed it with clear embossing powder, and then I inked the edges again with brown ink. I wanted to use the embossing powder that I had purchased so I went for it and I am happy with how it turned out.

Happy Monday! Sorry for the late post, but better late than never. Well, today is the last day of January and we are going to be wrapping up things for this month of Organization. Is everybody organized and ready for a great year of craftiness?

Each month we will be dedicating our blog posts with a theme of sorts. Starting tomorrow, our theme is Love is in the Air. Now, I know some of you may not have a significant other or may be single, so we are definately going to vary our posts and challenge you to think beyond the box.

Since it is Mojo Monday, this week I want to kick things off with a challenge. This week, scrapbook the things you love. I'm not talking about your husband or kids or pets for that matter. Packing Your Bags

Hi all! Michelle Houghton here or some of you might know me as Scrapweaver. I am the artist and teacher for Club Copic. Mimi asked me to share a little info on organization with you for this months organizational theme. My scrap space usually is not very organized BUT when I go to a crop I have a system that works great for me. Let me put it this way when I go to an all day crop I can crank out 25 plus pages and it is because I am organized and ready to get to work. i am a teacher at heart so I am going to give you my system in a step by step with photos.

#1 I organize my photos - I will pull out two or three packets of photos (depending on numbers) and sort them. I group them together in "pages" meaning one or two page layout groups. A one page layout might take two to four photos where a two page layout might accommodate six to ten depending how much cropping I might do. Each of these groups get bundled with a sticky note to keep them organized and so I can tell about how many pages worth in a quick glance.

#2 I pick my papers - I like paper don't you? I usually pick two sheets of patterned paper to go with each one or two page layout. I find cardstock to match and put that with the photos and patterned paper. If I have a large group of photos from a single outing I might pick several sheets of patterned paper and coordinating cardstock and group them all together.

#3 I bag them - With the papers and photo together I put the group in a bag to keep them together. If the paper has coordinating embellishments I add those to the bag or a few items I know I want to include. Anyone who knows me knows I do not leave home without fibers and buttons these days.

#4 Get it together - So I go through each photo group just like that and make a mini kit for each group of photos. I might have two or three groups that can be bagged together but the idea is to make sure I have just enough, without the kitchen sink, and to break them down into smaller groups so they are just ready to go! All these bags go into a protective folder or a 12x12 box would work great.

#5 I'm all packed - When I leave for an all day crop I TRY to narrow it down to two bags, my large tote and my large tool bag. In the large tote I have two or more protective folders full of page kits ready to go, I have a small group of neutral cardstock, folder of letter stickers for titles, and extra adhesive. Can you ever have too many glue dots or tape runners? In my tool bag I have my cutter, my monster tape runner, ruler, a couple punches, pens, distress tools, and yes more do-dads like more buttons!

This can all be scaled back further for a smaller crop or one that you are traveling to by air. I took two small totes to a two day crop in Vegas and had everything I needed by doing some serious planning. My only mistake was putting my Crop-A-Dile in my carry on on the way there. The security crew scratched there head over that one after we dug it out of the bottom of the overstuffed bag :-)

Hope this gives you some ideas and helps you prepare for some serious scrapping at your next crop!

That Scrappy Girl has been focusing this month on organization so I decided now that I am finished with my holiday pages I need to get organized so when I break out the supplies next holiday season I don't have to spend half of the time reorganizing what I have already started. What a great feeling! I took one evening to organized, write myself notes and put my finished pages in the albums. Even though the holiday season (spirit) has past, I know next time it comes around I will be ready for it.

Cardstock Card

GASP! A card without patterned paper? I will admit this doesn't happen for me very often. For this card I used two different colors of Bazzill paper, using a border punch on the black cardstock. I also punched circles from the cardstock and then created an embellishment by placing a Jillibean Soup Christmas Chesnut Soup sticker over them. I adhered this to the card with pop dots for added dimension. I also used a couple sticker strips from the same sheet of Jillibean Soup stickers. Those super cute pins (Sugar Picks) are also from Jillibean Bean Soup. And here's a tip...stick the pins thru the pop dots! Then you don't have to try to adhere or stick them thru the cardstock. That Scrappy Girl has them available in two different colors. I would imagine they will go fast!

Mojo Monday - #4

Happy Monday! I'm getting a late start this morning. I was at the UCA cheerleading competition at Mall of the America over the weekend. And if MOA wasn't busy enough over a weekend add 90 teams of screaming girls ages 5-17. We had a great time though and my daughter's team came took 1st place. Go TNT!

Mojo Monday's for January have been focused on organizing your scraproom and supplies. I know for me I am hindered creatively if my space is a mess...Oh, who am I kidding, I don't scrapbook at all if I can't see my desk so here are some more tips on keeping your space tidy and the creative juices flowing:

1. Organize supplies how you create. If you scrapbook by collections, papers, embellishments all by the same company, then organize those supplies the same way. Pocket Folders or small bins are great for this.
I personally scrapbook by matching my photograph and build from there, so I color coordinate.

2. Keep inspiration close at hand. I love to keep my Newest or Favorite items within eye sight. This way I stay motivated and inspired. I love the Clip it Up for this. Talk about keeping embellishments and sorts organize, it's just doesn't get any easier than this.

3. My third and last tip actually comes from the FlyLady herself. If you haven't heard about her, you must check her out. She is dedicated to taking the CHAOS out of our lives and living by routines. All of her principles can be applied to any room of your house. So as FlyLady says: Set A Timer. That's right. Every task can seem daunting and overwhelming, but it you break it up in manageable segments, nothing is too big to tackle. So this week's challenge is to get a timer. Set it for 15 minutes and GO! You will be amazed at what you can do!.

Paper Flower tutorial

Hi everyone Kristie here,, I made a flower tutorial , I hope you guys like it.
It is simple, and easy with only a few steps and you end up with two really gorgeous flowers to use on your projects. There are just a couple of things I should say first.. I have made many of these and a strong double sided paper or a cardstock works best.they hold their shape longer and and have much more dimention.Use a strong fast drying paper glue(so you arent stuck there holding your peices together forEVER!)I like Ivy scraps scrap fusion but you could use any fast drying paper glue.
there are a few techniques to make the flowers 3 dimentional
one is "cupping" where you take a blunt object(I use the end of a paintbrush) you place the paintbrush handle down at a 45 degree angle and press till the object cups upward.
two is "shaping" (I use a sharpie) where you rub the petals back and forth to shape the petals
three is "stirring" where you place the sharpie in the center of the flower and stir in a circular motion to make the flower curl upward.
four is "pinching" self explanatory I think ,, just pinch the edges together
okay heres what you need to get started:
-double sided paper or cardstock
-paper punches (i used a large daisy punch,a small daisy punch,a medium snowflake punch and a small sun punch)
-fast drying glue
-scissors
-sharpie marker or other blunt large ended item(for shaping petals)
-paitbrush end or other small blunt ended item(for cupping sun)
-glitter glue/glitter/paint
scoring matt or old mouse pad(a folded towel will work too!)
here is what we are making............

here are the punches I used

FOR FLOWER #1,five large daisy,one small daisy, one medium snowflake

SPRITZ with water or glimmer mist

"STIR" each petal until they curl

SHAPE each petal by rubbing lenghtwise

PINCH each petal making a "v" shape

TRIM each snowflake arm to make a stamen

SNIP multiple times each set of "leaves"( this will be two of the five large daisy punches that you flip over to a darker side of the paper)

STACK EM UP BABY!! gluing as you go and alternating the position of each daisy punch

WALLL LAHHHH!!
ALL DONE, ISNT SHE JUST GORGEOUS!!!!
okay now you can call that done , or you can add glitter glue/glitter/paint/ink/ markers etc... to make it more realistic.dont worry if it isnt perfect, because sometimes to imperfection makes them more beautiful.
NOW FLOR FLOWER #2..
you just punch four large daisys, and two small suns.
"STIR" the daisys, "CUP" the suns,
"SNIP" multiple times on each petal
STACK em up,, and add glitter.................

Happy Monday! I got an email from a blog reader suggesting a Mojo Monday topic of organizing clear acrylic stamps. Thanks Becki for the suggestion. I am going to break up this request into a few parts. Today I am going to start by showing some products in the market exclusively designed to store stamps. Then later in the week, I am going to upload a video on how to make your own storage system with some supplies you can find at the office supply store.

S-P-I-R-I-T - Do you got it?

No promises, but I think that this might be my last Christmas layout for now. I was really hoping to get caught up on my Christmas book...but my holiday spirit is about gone. We will see if it can last a little bit longer to get through the last few layouts I need to do to be caught up.

I do have to say, having this adorable paper line by Chestnut Soup by Jillibean Soup has helped keep me in the spirit to scrapbook the holidays.

I enjoyed doing this layout, primarily because of the story, not so much about the photos. I actually took the time to journal (by the way I don't like to journal) on this layout because the story is so important to the layout. I don't think you can read the journaling that well so here is what it says:

"This years Christmas was extra special as these are the three new members of our family and they are all within six months of each other. Tate is the oldest, Owen is our little guys and in the middle, and Cole is Mart and Trish's. Ever since Owen was born I have had him in hats. Well, Christmas was no exception to the rule. He had the perfect page hat to match his velvet suspender pants. We wanted to get a photo of all three boys and this is what we got. A storyline of how Tat saw and claimed Owen's hat with Cole's disapproval. It was too funny to watch this play by play."

I hope that your holidays have been filled with as much love, fun, and laughter as mine have been. Once again I have to say that I am truly blessed.

A New Year....Time to Get Craftin'!

For me 2010 was the year of the craft funk. Not sure what happened, but bleh! But 2011 will be different. I am going to challenge myself to get creating accomplished even if it's just in 10 minute increments. I also need to do a better job of showing of my projects on this blog and my personal blog. So here's my first post in the new year. A wee little card using the SUPER CUTE Echo Park "Everybody Loves Christmas."

My daughter who is 8 is very artsy and craftsy so while on Winter Break she begged me for a gingerbread house kit. Stupid me instead of buying the one large house, I bought 5 minis. Probably 5 hours later we were finally done..... I only helped with assembly and some of the white piping at the seams. Other than that she did the whole thing. She was pretty proud of herself to I wanted to share with the blog world.

Happy New Year! I hope everyone is enjoying 2011 so far! I know that I am excited and pumped about the new year and all of the beautiful things it is going to bring. I have been working on my personal resolutions and thought that I had better start working on my scrapbooking goals as well. One of the goals I have set this year to catch up on my Christmas album and pages. I have a tendency to only want to scrapbook Christmas pages at Christmas time. This can be fun, however; most of the time it isn't because it puts me WAY behind!!

As I work towards my goal of finishing holiday projects and pages, I wanted to share with you my most recent two-page layout. I absolutely love the line Christmas Chestnut Soup by Jillibean Soup and had to do another layout with it. These are from the pictures I took of Owen decorating our Christmas tree. It was all about him and the way he wanted the tree to look. So I stopped being a control freak about it and let him have at it!

As I look back on 2010 I am reminded once again that I am truly blessed in many different ways. I look forward to working on and obtaining my resolutions this year. I cannot believe the life that God has give me. God is good!

Happy New Year!

I hope everyone had a wonderful New Year celebration. I have officially entered the "Club." You know, "the Club" It is for members like me who stay home on New Year's night, put the kids in bed and watch Dick Clark's rockin' New Year's Eve on TV. Watch the ball drop and go to bed. Now there is nothing wrong with that, except, I live in Iowa which is Central time. So needless to say, I stayed up until 11:15pm to watch the ball drop on the East coast and then I was out like a light.  What did you do last night?

With the New Year comes new resolutions.  And for many of us, the top of that list is organization. Well, friends, you are not alone. All of the Mega-Stores must think we need to organize our lives because all of their storage and organizational tools are on sale. As I finalize my personal and scrapbooking resolutions for 2011, I am excited to announce Mojo Monday's. Each Monday, we will bring you a new challenge to ignite your Mojo. But here's the catch...you need to participate. We want to hear from you and see what you are doing. I have created a flickr group for everyone to post their work and spark some good ole' conversation.

{Mojo} Monday #1 (we'll get a early jump this time) is to, you guessed it: Organize a hot spot. Take 15 minutes, set a timer, put on your favorite tunes, grab a coke...whatever you need, but organize just ONE area of your craft room. Don't take the whole day. Don't make this hard. Just one area and organize it.

End of another year!

So in keeping with New Year and New Resolutions I have decided to get a jump on organizing my scraproom. Hubby has taken the kids to a "kid-friendly" event and I decided to finally put away all of the layouts that I have created through out this year. I'm allocating 2 hours for this task...that's when they get back home, but first a quick blog post and a little funny!

"We're scrapbookers...that's imposibble!"

I typically scrapbook chronologically, but with the help of Lain Ehnman and her LOAD challenges, I was forced to scrapbook what I had available. With that being said, I have officially counted 52 completed layouts. These are all unique designs and not a one scraplifted. And to toot my own horn one more time, all 52 layouts are completed with journaling which as many of you know is my biggest struggle. So, on average I completed 1 layout a week...not too shabby!

So here's to another year. Keep scrapbooking friends! The design team and I have a lot of fun plans for the upcoming year, so stayed tuned! Happy New Year.

Reflections of a year past!

The holidays are over and this is the time of year that I start reflecting on the past year. I suffer from "ambitionitis" and "my eyes are bigger than my stomach" disease. So this year my resolutions are going to be a little different. My resolutions are going to be more thought out and fewer. I truly want to concentrate on doing a few well and actually making them a new habit as opposed to a huge list of resolutions.

So what exactly is a resolution? According to Wikipedia: A New Year's resolution is a commitment that an individual makes to a project or the reforming of a habit, often a lifestyle change that is generally interpreted as advantageous. The name comes from the fact that these commitments normally go into effect on New Year's Day

Reflecting back I had to go back to a blog post to find my resolutions for 2010...you could just imagine how well I did with those especially since I couldn't find the list...So let's see how I fared:

2010 Resolutions
10. I resolve to scrapbook more this year...especially with all my peeps.
Happily, I can say I did this. Off to a good start.
9. I will keep my scrapbook room organized this year.
Well, it's clean right now, so that counts right?

8. I am going to challenge myself to teach some scrapbooking classes this year

Didn't teach any classes, but I made a video. WooHoot!

7. I am going to learn how to create at least 1 digital/hybrid scrapbooking page

I did one on trial and error, so I wouldn't call that learning. Sorry digi girls, this just wasn't for me.

6. I will step out of the box and learn new techniques

I learned how to use COPIC markers and loving all that I can do with them.

5. Set a goal to attend CHA Summer - it's back in Chicago this year...YEAH!

Bummer. Didn't make it this year.

4. Take more pictures of my kids and family

Wow, I really bombed this one! Maybe I should try Project 365 this year.

3. Organize my photos on my hard drive

Yeah, I'll do that in 2011. Wink! Wink!

2. Sew more on my pages...especially using felt

Still need to work on this, but I am signed up for a beginning sewing class starting Jan. 10th

1. Pray that God continues to bless my business so I can be an inspiration to my family and others.

Hands down, God has blessed my business this year. The more time I make for Him, the more he blesses me and my business.

So 4 out of 10...Okay, all of you teachers out there I know what percentage that is; Next year is a new year right?

As I continue to work on my resolutions for 2011, I truly want to hear some of your resolutions, so PLEASE leave a comment. P.S. They don't have to be scrapbooking related.

Scrappin' with Scrappy Friend

Hello everyone! I am Mimi's (a.k.a. That Scrappy Girl) friend, Jamie (a.k.a. Scrappy Friend) and I will be posting on this blog starting after the new year every Saturday, so be sure to check back on Saturday's to Scrap with me.

For my first blog post I wanted to share with you a layout I did using the new Jillibean Soup Christmas Line - Chestnut Soup. How adorable is this line? I just love Jillibean Soup and I am always so excited to get my hands on their new lines. This layout was done in less than thirty minutes and was so much fun to do. It highlights Owen's (my son) first time making Christmas cutout cookies which is a tradition in my family. Owen was such a mess after we were done making the cookies, however; we had so much fun so it was worth the mess.

I enjoy mixing different patterns in my layouts, as you can see I did a bit of here. I made the "photo corners" by cutting a 2x2 square, cutting it diagonally, and then cutting a triangle out of each of the middles. It is a technique that I learned a few years ago and use from time to time when I want to highlight more of the patterned papers.

This cute little "gift" book is created with Jillibean Christmas, Chestnut Soup. I attached the ribbon from the back cover so it will wrap around and tie into a cute bow, Wrapping this book into a cute little gift. I made a folder to fit inside that holds each person's wish list and other Christmas list that I need. My other favorite piece in the album is the little snowman. I made him from layers of tissue paper that I ran through the snowflake embossing folder in the sizzix. He's so fluffy and cute.

I got this crazy notion that being a techno-savvy as I am, I can make a video of a tutorial. Actually, my Dad got a new video camera a few months ago and has been BUGGING me to make a video. Well, after M O N T H S of prodding, I finally agreed.

So today, I am bringing you my FIRST ever video demo. This is a fun little Christmas tag which my daughter Brittany designed {She's behind the camera too}. We are using the New Unity Stamps Co-Branded with Jillibean Soup.

Shame on me! Here are a few cards I made recently using the Egg Drop Soup collection, some Alpha Beans and Cardstock stickers and some Kraft Card Bases all from Jillibean Soup. I'm going to get my scrap on this weekend at a 15 hour crop...so hopefully will have some more to share with you next week!

hello there scrappy lovers! Kristie here> I have a little distressed page that i made to share with you!

Introducing Club Copic...

Club Copic is a new and exciting way to collect a full set of 36 Copic Sketch markers. That Scrappy Girl has partnered with Certified Copic Instructor Michelle Houghton to bring you the latest and greatest using Copic Markers. Each month, club members will receive a kit which will include 3 Copic Sketch markers, color instructions and enough materials to make a 12" x 12" layout and card. This LIVE interactive class will meet the 2nd Tuesday of the Month.

How Copic Club works:

Club members will meet once a month (2nd Tuesday of each month)
Each month, Certified Copic Instructor Michelle Houghton will teach new tips and techniques on how to use the Copic Sketch Markers
Club members will also receive color instructions of 2 projects: a 12" x 12" layout and card
Monthly club fees of $29.99 will be assessed on the 1st of the month to assure materials will arrive on time. You have the option to cancel any time. Just let us know before the next month's billing cycle.
After a period of 12 months, you will have received a full set of 36 Copic Sketch markers.
Copic Club members will have access to the forum to discuss and to ask questions about everything and anything about Copic.

Hi all you scrappy girls!Kristie here, and I just wanted to show you what happens when you take some basic supplies from the scrappy girl store and add a little trash to make a treasure....... I took black cardstock, added some markers to make a grid, some paint splatters and painted "rings" which were made by dipping the paint lid into the paint and then "smooshing" it directly onto the paper. a peice of a pizza box and made a roagh and ready boy Layout. well ,, here take a look and lewt me know what you think......

Calling all Scrapbookers, Cardmakers and Crafters. Point of Grace Church is holding a fall scrapbook crop supporting the Student Ministries
scholarships for camp. Spend 12 hours of pure crafty fun October 23, from 9 am - 9 pm. Bring a friend (or two or three or four). $40 includes lunch, dinner, snack and beverages. A variety of vendors will be on-site offering scrapbooking supplies as well as gift items and services. Space is Limited

October Afternoon's Fly A Kite

Here are a few cards I made using October Afternoon's Fly A Kite collection. I love that the colors are not gender specific. I used papers, rubons, stickers, even some of the packaging! I love bright colors so this is one of my favorite collections so far this year. You receive papers and matching stickers in this collection pack. Copic Craziness!

I know some of you gals are simply Copic Crazy. Well I am here to tell you that I have joined the whole LOT of you. For years I have been collecting acrylic stamps and never making cards or using them on my layouts...I know, I know...I'm nuts right. So lately, I have been forcing myself {or rather the economy has been forcing me} to make my own cards. And so I have been just doing that. STILL not using my stamps...Geez! Inspired again by those fabulous Unity Stamp gals.{interject favorite catch phrase: SO STINKIN" CUTE} I have gotten out my stamps.

But wait, there's more! These cards are just amazing and mine, well are a little less than amazing. In walks Copic Markers. Okay, Okay so I am behind the times, but better late than never right.
